Here's Generation Happy or Dead, our 2nd single from iTopia, our full-length concept album coming out April 7th. This song started as a reflection on how we’re living with failing institutions, the death of long-standing ideas like “job + marriage + family = happy” or “if you go to college you’ll get a good job that will support you for life. But then it became about fighting against getting lost in that wash, falling into apathy, being numb to the world. We sample Franklin D. Roosevelt saying, “This generation has a rendezvous with destiny” because we believe the current generations can turn this whole thing around, can choose whether our society falls down the rabbit hole or not, can choose happiness.

LYRICS:
i don’t know what year it is
i don’t know what day it is
i don’t know what time it is
i don’t know who’s mind this is
i can’t tell what’s mine or yours
i can’t use these broken doors
i keep walking into walls
i got cellphone brain i keep dropping calls
call us generation happy or dead
we don’t wanna be apathy heads
hell no we won’t go numb
call us generation happy or dead
we don’t wanna be apathy heads
hell yes our best is yet to come
i can’t see a five year plan
i can’t run i can barely stand
i can’t stand to face the news
always paying bills or dues
i can’t tell what’s real or not
i can’t think my own damn thoughts
i got a voice inside my head
saying you can be happy when you get dead
call us generation happy or dead
we don’t wanna be apathy heads
hell no we won’t go numb
call us generation happy or dead
we don’t wanna be apathy heads
hell yes our best is yet to come
